Ghosts Session Debrief 070503

Well with 2 members only tonight, we had to work on a 2 man mission. Its the Scud search mission, which has eluded most of us for a while now. We tried several tactics, but the one which yielded best results as follows. And no, we did not complete the mission.

First we changed our gear, one with m60 and one with m21. Our intention was to return to the base to re-equip for the second mission objective! We took along 6 sachel charges total, for the destruction of the scud launcher. We headed fairly much due south, keeping cover, and at sprint speed. When we got a line of sight on the Scud camp, we got prone and into position. Luckily we got this far without being spotted by the Hovering Gunship. With a clean shot on 2 of the 3 guards, we coordinated our fire, to remove them. Then we moved at sprint, down to the launcher to plant the charges. One of the guards hiding behind the launcher. had to be neutralized with my M9 Handgun at close quarters. We planted the charges then sprinted east into the forest running south of the road, to avoid the infantry coming into the area from the south. Now we were being chased by the Gunship. When we hit the edge of the forest, we detonated the charges., and continued west. We ended up going too far west and southwest, and had to double back, loosing valuable time. We could not shake the Gunship, which continued to update the infantry and BMP on our position. We stopped to assess our position and were intercepted by the BMP and its 6 accompanying troops. End game.

Timing seems pretty important, and we needed to expedite our actions pretty quickly, to keep ahead of the opposition. I think the trick is not to engage anything which is not part of the mission. Get in, blow the scud, and get out and into cover and away from the area as quickly as possible. You have also to keep out of the line of sight of the gunship which has a pretty lethal cannon.
