Ghosts Session Debrief 070521

Tonight we had 2 members. And we progressed the BMP Camp mission of the Malden map. The route we followed (on Mac’s suggestion) was north of Chapoi, and then cut south across the road at the pen, and confront the T72 there. We had to stay around the edge of the forest to take out the two bogies, then crossed over past the garage, and due north to flank the town of Chappoi. We got pinned down west of the town with a group of bandits bearing South east. Our medic and our number five got injured in the encounter, and five died before the medic could attend to him.

We pushed on east and crossed the road east of the Penn. We could hear a vehicle from the south, and eventually got a glimpse of the T72, but it went off into the distance again. We decided to hunt it, rather than risk it creeping up on us in an exposed location. So we went into danger mode, weapons safe, formation line, and proceed towards the sound. Eventually, it came into view, and I put our AI’s into ‘Engage mode’, target ‘T72. Mac had already the Law on his shoulder, and I quickly followed, Our number three, got the first hit. Mac got a shot off, direct hit, and I also sunk a rocket into the side of the T72. It was still moving and moved into view at the top of the road. ‘Law away’ ‘BOOM, Mac got another hit, and all movement stopped. A few seconds later a huge explosion ripped the tank apart, sending shrapnel every direction, and a large plume of smoke into the sky.

The enemy would surely know where we were now. No time to gloat, back to standard formation, and regroup. After a head count, we realised number three was dead. He probably took the brunt of the T72 machine gun turret after he engaged with the Law. Nothing we could do for him. We checked for Law rounds but none.

Suddenly we were aware of another sound, almost as deadly as the T72. Then, inside  100 meters, the BMP came into view moving at speed. “Mac, u any laws”, “no”. It moved east in a flanking movement, behind bushes, and I scrambled to get the law onto my shoulder again. One round left. I paused briefly, had a good line, and I pressed fire. ‘Click’ “Shit!”, not loaded. I hit the reload button, and it seemed to take forever to get that round up the fire tube. When I looked up again, the BMP was starting to move again, but this time directly away, giving me a clear shot, one, two fire. Bang. Nothing for a few seconds, no movement, then the huge bang of the secondaries, as the BMP was torn apart. Good job all round. Now we needed to push forward to the primary objective.

We didn’t get much further with the mission, but did get sight of the camp, and attempted to flank round to the south west side for our attack position. We spent some time trying to sort our location, and lost valuable time doing so. I think the enemy foot patrol had already started to close on our position. We eventually got caught in the open by this patrol which came up on our rear, and despite our best efforts to depart the area, all the remaining team got cut down one by one.

It’s a tactic worth trying again.
