Ghosts Session Debrief 070524

 

Some important points came out of our session, that I need to highlight. Feedback on these most welcome.

 

·            Don’t fire at anyone, unless you are sure it/he is not friendly. Better you die, than kill a friendly.

·            Follow team leader instructions, unless defensive. By all means if you wish be a squad leader,  but if you are not you follow his instructions.

·            Request clearance to take an action e.g. firing at a tank or a bmp, unless you are threatened by them. Its the squad leaders responisiblity to deploy resources to complete the mission objectives.

·            Don’t choose to take a weapon (apart from rifle), unless you are confident with it. e.g. machine gun, Law, Sniper. Each has an important role in the mission, and the team is dependent on the skill of these members.

·            Keep track of you ammunition. Never run out. Always hold enough to either retreat, defensive, or reach a fresh source. 10 rounds may be enough, to keep you alive.

 

Three members to start with. Fish took command for the session. Straight into the BMP mission, The approach was south west to Cancon, clear the village then south east, to the small town close to the coast.  Then north to the forest, for cover and a south west approach to the camp. We made it to the forest without loss, and encountered the bmp, which was quickly taken care of. Then all hell broke loose. We were flanked from the north and north west, but due to our position inside the woods, there was difficulty getting a fix on our opponents. One by one we were eliminated.

 

A new member, (‘DC’) joined us for the next attempt, and had his baptism of fire as our number four for the BMP mission. After a friendly fire incident, we decided to restart. We spend a little time trying to get our group together, but after that all was well, and  DC picked up the hang of things pretty quickly. We pushed on towards the road, and approached Cancon. There were at least three bogies there, and our number two tried to snipe from our position. This approach left us too exposed from fire inside Cancon, and quickly our numbers dwindled. One of us had to go offline, so we terminated the session. ( a bit of sniper training would not go amiss).

 

We then tried the ‘Dark night’ mission, with 6 spe ops, to clear a village. We used our AI’s to great effect, giving added cover and offensive fire from our position overlooking the village. Having cleared what seemed to be a huge number of enemy forces, we proceeded to move down into the village  by flanking to the East, and getting some cover. Hammer had taken out a Jeep and the tank along side the church with a couple of accurate shots from the Law.

 

We were down to four Five, with 3 human players, and started to move in towards the town. We split the team, and Fish took control of the two Ai’s, while Hammer and DC pushed south towards the coast, to commence a pincer movement into the village.

We continued to clear enemy forces who were now making their way towards us from several directions.

 

Then a call ‘hammer, out of ammunition’, followed soon after by ‘DC out of ammo’. Fish was down less than one mag. So Hammer proceeded to make his way back to the nearest enemy body to pick up and AK47, but a jeep interviened, and proceeded towards us. Fish killed the driver, and called the kill, at almost the same time Hammer called Law away, Boom. A waste of a rocket. Soon after Hammer was hit from fire to the north west of our position, and now DC proceeded to get the AK from the dead enemy soldier. Fish with his 2 ai’s kept vigil while DC picked up his AK. Not as good as the m4 .with its red spot ‘aimpoint’ but good for close combat. And as we pushed towards the town it was becoming close combat. Fish was now down to 13 rounds, and had sight of at least two injured bandits, who were trying to line up on his position. He took  a dash to the blown Jeep, but there was no ammo there. DC had now got a good position looking up the town, and fish had called the AI’s East 100m , stealth, Both gave cover while Fish reached the edge building of the town. DC was in a poor cover position, and took a bullet from a prone soldier close to the church. Soon after a grenade put an end to Fish using the building as cover. The mission ended there. On our count it looked like we killed about 50 enemy soldiers and vehicles, and there were still more left. Certinly worth looking at again with more human players.
