Well we got three players, but not at the same time. Me
and Mac were well into Nihilist, so DC had to wait it out, and did some range
work. Then when we finished, Mac had to go off to feed. First off, me and Mac completed the lonewolf, taking out
the convoy the fuel depot, and
making ourselves scarse to the north west, out of harms way and north into
safe territory. 'A completed Mission' Mac cried out. So even what looks like
the hardest missions can be beater with brain rather than brawn. Kolgujev, Nihilist. Week 2 Anyway
we had some measure of success, and Mac's work on the sniper rifles helped. We
took a different approach from after the garage. Sure enough the Strela is not
a weapon of choice for ground attack, but we carried it with us anyway. We
took a different recon position, on the southside of the road, to the south
east of the base. Ok lets make it simple. Fish went took on bomber role, and
Mac remained sniper, and recon 'Squad hold position' was enough to get the two AI's to
hold out of sight at (A), bomber gets a satchel charge from one of the AI's,
and goes west of the road, keeping clear of the roving BMP, and the camp.
Sniper gets a position at A, and holds low, providing recon for bomber to the
north west, about the BMP. The BMP after studying it, was found to have a
routine which took it back onto the road, close to the houses west of the
camp. Bomber waited for the all clear from sniper, and dropped the charge
close to a phone pole on the road at (B), to be used as a cue for its
location. After a little time the bmp came strolling, and the satchel charge
was detonated. Bomber moved quickly, as there was gunfire after the explosion,
but it quickly quelled down after some secondary explosions from the BMP. Once back to position Fish's role was back to squad
leader, and sniper was charged with taking out the highest threat, the guard
towers, and Leader used the
Strela to detonate a truck inside the camp, with several soldiers patrolling
next to it. Very quickly we had taken out most within the camp, Leader brought
the AI's carefully down to the only camp entrance on the west. He could see
the east end of the camp, and sniper could cover the west end from his
location at (C) He gave both AI's cover position left and right of the
entrance. Sniper alerted us to movement outside the camp, and there was
gunfire. Target down. With a little care we managed to clear the base, and
then proceed to place the remaining charges around the head quarter building.
The remaining charges were removed from the AI's and detonated, but the
building was still intact. I did notice a 'mon-200' on one of the enemy
soldiers, but did not pursue it. Later i discovered that that’s a pretty
explosive remote detonation device. We could not destroy the building, and
Sniper came down from his position, and offered to drive us to the landing
zone at the derelict village. Our AI's were so pissed off, they wouldn’t get
in the jeep with us. We left them there to make their own way back. The UH60 was parked in the place we had left it, and was
in no danger of 'rolling' away. We hoped in, fired it up, and away, along the
road to the north east, and used the bend in the road as the cue to head north
over the sea, to home base. Lessons, We need to know how much of what charges are needed fo
building etc. The AI's sometimes just don't behave themselves, after a
long time in the mission (boredom no doubt). With the bumpy ride back to the chopper that Mac gave me,
the AI's decision looked like a good one.... 'Lights are handy, to help you see in the dar.'.............. Me and DC then tried a mission, but I am going to leave the write up for when we try it again next session.
