The President's Award was established in 1985 to coincidewith International Youth Year.  With Galway being one of the first pilot areas, we are proud to say that the Mervue Unit was one of the first involved in the programme.

Majella Killeen was one of the first recipients of the President's Gold Award.

The award is aimed at young people between the ages of 15 and 25 years and encourages initiative, self-discipline, leadership and caring skills in young people.  The award is obtained when the participant has successfully completed four challenges in Community Involvement, Personal Skills, Physical Recreation, and Adventure Activity and participants can achieve Bronze, Silver or Gold Medals.
