HISTORY OF ATHENRY  

The A.G.M. of Athenry Community Council took place on Monday Sept. 25th at 8pm in the Canton Hall.
The meeting opened with the minutes of the last A.G.M. Before his address the Chairperson Mr Bob Zonenblick proposed votes of sympathy to the families of the late Paddy Egan, Athenry and the late Joe Corbett, Newcastle.

In his Chairperson’s address Mr Zonenblick paid tribute to the many people who helped in their various ways during the past year ie: Fr King P.P, the Gárdaí, Community Council, the officers, various subcommittee members and indeed all members of the Community Council.

The Chairperson then proceeded to pay special tribute to the Festival and Tidy Towns Committees who were a fine example of the community working together and he urged an even greater involvement by all members of the parish.

Mr Zonenblick thanked our solicitors 0’Donnell and 0’Hara and Mr Malachy Concannon for being present at the meeting. The financial report showed upturn in the Council’s favour but a lot of effort is still required especially in the promotion and sale of lotto tickets by all members of the Council.

The financial report was given by Mr Malachy Concannon followed by the election of officers for the coming year.
