  • Winter Night-O League: This is a new series being launched by Gerry Brady to encourage inter-firm league participants to go one step further - a step into the dark! The events will again be held on Tuesday evenings with start times between 6:00 and 7:00 pm. If you're a bit nervous then why not bring a friend along with you. The events are listed in the on-line fixtures list, with the first one being held at James Fort on Tuesday 23rd October. Parking as usual will be beside the Old Dock pub in Kinsale (cross the bridge heading for Garrettstown and immediately turn left). Start early if you want daylight (up to 7pm)! Don't forget that next week the clocks go back and it will be dark at 6pm. All proceeds from this league go towards the Irish Orienteering Squad.

May 2001

  • The Interfirm League results are online and can be viewed via the main 'Results' link opposite!

  • The summer inter-firm league starts this Tuesday (15 May) at Farran Wood. As per usual, start times will be from 5.30pm - 7.30pm. A full fixture for the league can be found under the 'Fixtures' link opposite. For those of you who are not familiar with the league, it consists of a fun event with team or inter-firm competition. On each Tuesday evening, there will be one course (3km to 6km) available with premarked maps. The league is suitable for all the family, including beginners, irrespective of fitness levels. The emphasis is on a fun evening out in the woods, although competition can be fierce between the top orienteers and runners. It is a great opportunity to get some air, get fit, go on a works outing, etc. There is no pre-entry required; just turn up on the night and if necessary, experienced people will show you the ropes!

  • The event at Beaumont this Tuesday (May 8) is starting from 6 pm to 7 pm. The start has been changed to the Boreenamanna road opposite the football grounds and beside the funeral home. Beaumont park is a mix of park, quarry and cliffs. There will be a norwegian and a normal course. Bring a pen to mark codes down at controls.

  • I'm going to be pretty busy over the next few weeks so there may be some delay in getting the results of the Tuesday night events online. To get them the following morning, it might be an idea to join the Cork-O newsgroup via the link at the top right-hand corner of this page...

  • The Munster fixture list is now back on-line and can be viewed via the 'Fixtures' link opposite!

  • Don't forget that the results of recent events listed below can be found under the '2001 Local Events Results' link on the main Results page!

April 2001

  • Good news! Coillte have given us permission to hold the event in Currabinny this coming Tuesday (May 1st)!

  • Due to the continuing 'Foot and Mouth' situation, we have had to further postpone the event scheduled for Currabinny next week (April 24th). Instead, the event scheduled for Kinsale on the 1st May has been brought forward. So the fixtures for the next two weeks now look as follows:
       24 April Tuesday 7pm Kinsale Street-O
        1 May Tuesday 7pm Currabinny

Please also note that the Kinsale event, now on April 24, will be based in a new car park and not at St. Multose. Facing 'The White House' at the top of Pearse Street with the sea behind you, turn right onto the road towards Ballinhassig. The new car park is about 400m out this road on the right hand side.

  • The results of the events listed below can be found under the '2001 Local Events Results' link on the main Results page!

  • No rest for the wicked... Due to the ongoing "Foot and Mouth" situation, the club has decided to organise a few events in local parks and other areas still open to the public to keep you all on your toes! The fixtures are as follows:
10 April Tuesday 7pm James Fort, Kinsale
17 April Tuesday 7pm Ballincollig Park
22 April Sunday 12pm Warren Strand Walk!
       24 April Tuesday 7pm Kinsale Street-O
        1 May Tuesday 7pm Currabinny

  • On 22 April (Sunday), there will be a walk/run from Warren Strand car park near Ross Carbery starting at 12pm. To get to the car park, turn left at the causeway at the bottom of the hill just before Ross Carbery and then bear left again!

  • It is hoped that the inter-firm league will start as scheduled with Farren on May 15th and Tracton on May 22nd. However, this will of course depend on the status of the "Foot and Mouth" crisis at the time. For further information, contact Mary Curran or Richard Kavanagh.

  • At last... the Shamrock O'Ringen will return next year on the bank holiday weekend at the start of June!

March 2001

  • Due to the current "Foot and Mouth" situation, ALL coming orienteering events have been CANCELLED!

  • In the meantime, why not come along to the MOA table quiz being held at Frankfield House at 8pm this Thursday (March 8th)! Entry is free with prizes for the first and second place teams...

  • The AGM of the Club will take place on Thursday February 1st at 8pm in Frankfield Golf Club (close to the Kinsale Roundabout).

  • The IOA are organising a number of training courses over the coming months for which the club will partially subsidise attendance. First up is a course on the electronic punching system (SPORT IDENT) and map overprinting (WINCACS) which takes place on the 26th and 27th January in Dublin. Next up is an OCAD (map drawing) course being run by Pat Healy from Friday 2nd February (evening) to Sunday 4th February at Avondale House, Co.Wicklow. Advance booking is necessary for this one.

  • Apologies everyone for the lack of information lately. This was due to Eircom introducing yet another profit-making catch on their so-called 'free' service. And of course, this change to the service was not advertised which meant countless calls to their technical support team (who seemed also unaware of the changes) at nearly a pound a minute! Anyway, the end result of this is that I will not be able to update the page as regularly now and it will also cost me more to do so!

  • There will be a training event at Inchigeelagh on Sunday 14th January to sharpen up and develop your orienteering skills. We will meet at 11am in the village (Creedon's Hotel) and proceed to the activities from there. For those arriving later, follow the signs directly north from the village for about 4km. We expect to finish at about 4pm. Bring your orienteering gear (clothes & compass) and some additional warm clothes as well as your lunch. For more details, contact Brian Corbett (bcorbett@nmrc.ie) or Bob Pinker (bmpinker@eircom.net). Everyone is welcome and we hope to see you there!!!
