Ballinacourty: Glen of Aherlow, Co. Tipperary. An untidy forest on the northern part of the Glen of Aherlow. To get there, you can go to Cahir (on the N8) and turn off onto the N24 towards Tipperary town. At Bansha, turn left and there should be signposts after that, if required. Alternatively, at Mitchelstown, turn off the N8 and take the R513/R662 to Galbally. Once there, take the R663 towards Bansha. Grid reference R86 30.
Ballinastoe: Roundwood, Co. Wicklow. A fairly typical Wicklow map with a mixture of mature forest, immature forest and open hillside. To get there, Take the R755, south towards Roundwood. There should be O signs at some point before the junction with the R759 (to the Sally Gap). Grid reference O 17 08.
Ballinascorney: Co. Dublin. Signposted off the R114 between Oldbawn and Brittas.
Ballincollig Regional Park: The park around the Powder Mills in Ballincollig, situated on the banks of the Lee. It consists mainly of playing fields with some forest. To get there, drive through Ballincollig to the White Horse pub and shopping centre. Take a right turn. This turn should be signposted for Coachford and/or the park. There should also be an O-sign on it. Continue for about a half mile. The park is on your right, just before the bridge.
An alternative start is at the Powder Mills entrance itself. This is near the Cork city end of Ballincollig - beside the Army Barricks and the GAA pitch. It is unlikely that this entrance will be used. Grid reference W 59 71.
Ballinora Wood: Curraheen, Co. Cork. Curraheen is just west of Bishopstown in Cork city.
Ballyconnelly: Near Dungarvan in Co. Waterford. Grid reference X 21 97.
Ballydrehid: Cahir Co. Tipperary.
Ballygawley: Co. Sligo. This is a serious area - very tough and very technical. GR 697297.
Ballyglass: Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim. Grid Ref. G874404.
Ballynoe: A jungle in the middle of nowhere, between Midleton and Tallow. To get there, drive into Midleton and, from there, take the R627 towards Tallow and Lismore. The forest is about 10 miles out this road. Grid reference W 96 85.
Ballyscanlon: Fenor, Co. Waterford.
Banagher:Dungiven, Co. Derry. An interesting area with steep forest and some good open. To get there, head to Dungiven and follow the O signs. Grid reference C 70 04.
Banna Beach Dunes: Banna, Co. Kerry. An new area of intricate sand dunes. To get there, take the R551 from Tralee towards Ballyheigh. The dunes are on the left, near Banna. Grid reference Q753 222.
Barnetts Park: Belfast. Grid reference J 31 68.
Beleek Wood: Ballina, Co. Mayo .
Belfast Castle: Belfast, Co. Antrim. Grid reference J 33 79.
Belfield: The campus of University College Dublin. Mostly football pitches and buildings. This is for fast running rather than fine navigation. To get there, take the number 10 or 11 or 11A or one of several other buses. Driving from the City centre, take the N11 south and slip off at the Belfield fly-over.
Benburb: Co. Tyrone. Grid reference H 82 52.
Binevenagh:Limavady Co. Derry. An area with intricate forest and open and some less detailed forest around the back. It also boasts some impressive cliffs and views. To get there, take the A2 from Limavady towards Coleraine. The forest is on the right. Grid reference C 69 30.
Bishopstown: Cork city. This is the south western suburb of Cork city. Several events use this area but start in different places.
Bishopswood: Dundrum, Co. Tipperary. GR R975455.
Bottlehill: Rathduff, Co. Cork. GR 611886.
Boyle Forest Park: Boyle, Co. Roscommon. GR 844035.
Brandon Hill: Graiguenemanagh, Co. Kilkenny. Grid reference S 70 40.
Broadford Forest: Broadford, Co. Limerick.
Brockagh: Laragh, Co. Wicklow. Plantation forest and open moorland on a hill in the midst of the Wicklow mountains. Grid Reference T 12 97.
Bunnreagh: Burleigh Cottage, Co. Tipperary. Large mixed forest with path, drain & bank network. Steep slopes interspersed with shallow reentrants. 60% runnable. Map 1:10,000, 5m contours, surveyed 2000 by Padraig Higgins. Grid Reference N 295 019.
Burren Walk: Fanore, Co. Clare. This is actually an annual long distance walk through the limestone pavements of the burren in Co. Clare.
Burren: Co. Fermanagh/Cavan. This is an intricate area of open and forest on the Cavan/Fermanagh border. It was used for the 1994 Irish Champs.. To get there from Enniskillen, take the A32 towards Swanlanbar/Cavan/Dublin. After about 6 miles, take the right turn signposted for Florencecourt and Belcoo etc.. After a mile or two, take the left turn signposted as the Marlbank Scenic Loop and drive past the Marble Arch show cave. Continue on to the event. From the south, go through Swanlanbar towards Enniskillen and turn left at the junction signposted for Florencecourt. Continue as from Enniskillen. Grid Reference H 9 37.
