Two miles south, of Ardee are the remains of Kildemock medieval Church (Saint Catherines's), also known as The Jumping Church. A great storm in February, 1715, caused part of the west gable to shift three feet inwards from its foundation, but popular belief soon explained that the "jump" as a miracle to exclude the grave of a heretic who had been buried within the church. Either way, it's a remarkable site. The foundations are still standing and in the graveyard, simple foot high stone markers stand. These were some of the earliest grave slabs for the poor.
