Welcome to the Flint Moon Tavern. A local visited by many travellers who pass through the Crystal Mist mountains. So pull up a chair and soak up the atmophere ( if you can ignore the odours ).

Okey, the first thing to say is that an Inn and a Tavern are actually different establishments. Taverns are drinking holes and not much else where as an Inn also has Rooms to let and will readily serve food. Inn may be found on highways or any other place where tavellers may stop to rest or overnight before moving on. Taverns can be found almost anywhere and like unlike Inns may not close at all during the course of the night, however getting drunk and vomitting on the fresh straw will see a patron ejected in to the street ( the same for not buying drink ). Country Inns or taverns will sell Apple Cider or Schnaps brewed on local farms. Although the farmers could stay at home and get legless a focal point for gossip has to be an Inn or a traveller ( in the absence of television staring at strangers was the next best thing ).

In small villages with no town hall the Inn was a place where announcements were made by officials and notices posted. Of great importance was the visit or pressence of a bard who could not only regail the patrons with song but also with sotries of far off lands and adventures, things the average peasent could only dream about ( given a brain and an imagination ). So who may we expect to meet in the local?

THE BARD. Bards as already pointed out frequent Inns and taverns to make a living. Players should talk to them about their adventures and any bard would be willing to listen. In this way the Players character becomes well know in stories and may very well find him/herself in a tavern hundreds of leagues away listening to a story about themselves being retold to a captivated audiance. If the Player is cruel or ungenerous to a bard the story told may be funny to all listening except the PC.

THE BARKEEP. The bar of any Inn or tavern is kept by the landlord and his or her sons/daughters. It should be rare that someone is trusted outside family to keep hold of the till.

THE STAFF. People employed in these establishments are locals or people working and living in the Inn. They are an excellent source of gossip and information about the vacinity. Remember, if a PC visits an Inn or Tavern they may be remembered for weeks afterwards if it is a country Inn, a matter of only days for a city establishment.

THE LOCALS. The folk of the area who can be found here are trades men, farmers, farm labourers, local officials and craftsmen. The place will be quite during the day but very busy at night with trouble an uncommon thing in country Inns or Taverns.

INFORMERS. These people pay close attention to visitors and are usually related to or working for the local sheriff or lord. Sometimes they are just professionals looking to pick up a small reward for useful infomation.

GETTING PLASTERED

The main activity in any local is getting rat arsed drunk. So what do you order.

Country Cider: A potent brew made from apples. Served in flagons it has small lumps of apple floating about in it and is strong enough to floor a troll. Brewed locally and most popular between the Perren lands and Geoff.

Ale: Your typical beer, unlike larger it is not carbonated ( no drink is ) and is brewed from wheat. The germans are still very fond of this stuff, and so am I. Popular in central and east greyhawk.

Rum: Real rum is thick and syrup like in texture with a sweet taste. It is strong and available mostly in tavern within ports towns and fishing villages. Produced in south central and eastern coastal regions of Greyhawk.

Wine: Red or White? Well your over the counter plonk is white. Home brewed reisling ( central European grape ) wine is sweet and has a slight yellow texture. Different wines are grown through Greyhawk depending on the grape and method used to produce the wine. Produced in Greyhawk city from imported grape, Celene, Furyundy , Great kingdom, Veluna and Vassagonia.

Grog: Really bad ale, produced in huge quantities in places like the bandit kingdom and the wild coast. All other countries have their version of this foul brew.

Flame Gut: An ale brewed by Orcs and thus very hard to get. A lumpy foul smelling drink with a deep red colour.

Sustra: An Elfin concoction very close to wine but based no forest berries. It is ardous to make and hence rare and very expensive. It looks like sparkling water, totally clear and has a viscosity slightly below that of water. It tastes sweet and has a perfumed auroma ( what do you expect from elfs! ).
