The Good Room
This play explores the relationship between a Bosnian refugee (recently arrived in Dublin) and an Irish mother seeking to come to terms with the inexplicable disappearance of her own son.
The mother sees the arrival of the foreigner (who somehow reminds her of her missing son) as a replacement for her tragic loss. She thus craves his attention in an attempt to compensate for the despair and sense of emptiness that have come to dominate her life. Milos, the refugee, forced to abandon his own mother in order to escape the (Serbian) war, draws nearer to the (much longed-for) family reunion with each successive visit to the aliens office. However, as the play progresses, their two worlds drift further apart than ever before and the final dramatic sequence sees the characters struggle to establish a new sense of equality and justice.
