The Pale Mother Theatre Company was formed in March 1996 to stage modern international drama. It intends to draw on the legacy of Brecht, Piscator and other originators of political theatre in establishing a voice of dissent and using the medium of theatre as a vehicle for questioning. "Pale Mother" is of course taken from a poem by Brecht entitled "Germany – Pale Mother", expressing his disillusionment with Germany during the crisis years of 1929-1933.
