THE DOWNS GAA NOTES

County Scor Final:

Pride of place this week goes to our Set Dancing team of Brenda Deihy, Grainne Kelly, Yvonne Murphy, Rebecca Moody, Mark Leavy, George Coyle, Kevin Smith and Conor Carley, their trainers and musicians on regaining the county scor title against strong opposition.  Unfortunately there was no joy for our other competitors in the ceili dancing, solo singing, question time and recitation competitions.

Best of Luck in the Leinster semi final which takes place next Sunday in Ballymore at 6.00.

1999 Under 21Senior B Championship:

The Downs                   0-6            Coralstown/Kinnegad            0-13

Our Under 21 side eventually got to play the much delayed 1999 Under 21 semi-final, but there was no joy as we bowed out to Kinnegad by a seven point margin in Milltownpass on Saturday last.

One of the main differences between the teams was Kinnegads ability to convert the frees awarded to them, while at the other end our shooting boots were still a bit rusty from the winter.

Team: Ciaran McCormack, Paul Shanley, Seamus O’Leary, Stephen Cleary, Thomas Smith,  Sean O’Leary, Mark Leavy, Barry Conroy, Brendan Murtagh, Ian Egerton, Conor Carley, Darragh Ayres, Keith Shanley, James Conroy, Matt Maguire.

Lucky Numbers draw:

There was no winner of the IR£2,600 jackpot in the Lucky Numbers for the week-ended 19th February. Numbers drawn were  1, 4, 23 & 24.

£50 prize-winners were B.McCabe and Sean Gill.

Readoiri:

Our junior dancers and Jennifer McNamee performed magnificently in the All Ireland final of Readoiri at the weekend but honours just eluded them.

Votes of Sympathy:

We extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the Late Fr.Tom Faulkner, Knockaville.
