Our third team got their year off to the ideal start with a hard-fought two-point win over an experienced Garrycastle side.

The Downs started the game the stronger, but failed to convert many of the chances created due to the difficult wind conditions. Garrycastle came into the game after the first ten minutes and went six points clear before The Downs hit back with three points to go in at the break three points down.

On the restart, The Downs quickly reduced the lead to one point and then they hit the visitors with a quick goal to go two points ahead. We failed to build on this goal count and allowed Garrycastle to draw level before a late goal put some breathing space between the teams.

This victory over a Senior B team will be of great benefit to the confidence of this young team.

Numbers drawn for week ended 20^th March, were 1, 4, 6, 10 with no jackpot winner. Winner of £50 prizes were John Maguire and Jennifer Gaye, Gaybrook. We thank Mary Lynch’s for hosting the draw.

Well done to John Smyth, who captaining Clongowes Wood College to victory in the Leinster Senior Cup in Landsdowne Road on St. Patrick’s Day.
