Ash

The Ash tree has a pale green bark and it grows top a height of over forty metres. The Ash is a native tree to Ireland. The Ash is the last tree to get its leaves in May, but the flowers bloom before this. In winter the Ash looks grey and the large buds are black. Small purple clusters of flowers come before the leaves. The Ash is the first tree to lose its leaves in autumn. Its seeds whirl like propellers when caught by the wind. The Ash is often used for boat building and furniture making. In Ireland it’s used to make hurleys, hence the saying “Clash of the Ash”
