Excellent drama series set in a convent at a time when the Catholic Church was undergoing the most dramatic change in recent history

Part 1              Diane

Diane and Veronica both start their vocations in a Sydney convent at the same time but where as Veronica takes to her vocation with ease, Diane starts to question not her religion but the concept of being told what to do and say and more important what to believe in. Diane takes the name Sister Catherine and Veronica takes the name Sister Paul. The nuns try to make her adjust to the life she has chosen but when Catherine’s friendship with Paul is questioned, the mother superior and her assistant have no choice but to separate the two women.

 

Part 2              Frances

Frances Heffernan is at a crossroads in life, the father who she adores has gone overseas, her mother seems distant from her and she is in a boarding school where her isolation makes the situation worse. Then when her mother gives her the news that she wants to remarry it brings on a new crisis, should she be influenced by what she is thought by the nuns and all the adults that surround her or should she have faith in what is going to make her mother happy

 

Part 3              Ambrose

A new Pope is in the Vatican and he wants to make the Church more modern so changes need to happen but the changes bring to the surface the differences between the nuns, most notable Agnes and Catherine but when it comes to the time to make a decision about which way the Convent will go, Mother Ambrose takes Catherine’s side and forces the nuns to abide by the new rules. When a male teacher joins the staff Ambrose is forced to face her emotions and she falls in love with him, then she returns home to nurse her dying father. All this forces Ambrose to reassess her vocation

 

Part 4              Rosemary

Rosemary Fitzgerald is at the threshold of womanhood but with her education in a convent there is nobody she can turn to, to explain what that means and the changes that her body is experiencing so she goes about finding the answers herself but will she happy with what she discovers and how will they effect the people around her

 

Part 5              Paul

Paul returns home to attend a family wedding, while there she bumps into a friend of the family, a priest that believes the Church must change more drastically and it is not too long before they fall in love forcing Paul to leave the convent. But her faith is tested when she realizes that her boyfriend’s beliefs alienate him from the church forcing Paul to reconsider her decision in leaving the convent  

 

Part 6              Catherine

Catherine still cannot adjust to life in the convent but she carries on hoping that she will settle in but when she is forced to go against the Church’s stand on contraception she is forced into making a decision
