The Square 2008
A stylish, twist-filled film noir, The Square
centres on an adulterous couple whose scheming leads to arson, blackmail and
murder. Construction supervisor Ray Yale lives with his wife Martha in a Sydney
suburb. Their location is pleasant enough, but their marriage isn't exactly
firing on all cylinders; Ray's eye has begun to wander - settling on his
neighbour Carla Smith, wife of local gangster Greg. When Carla sees her husband
stowing away a hoard of illicit cash, she spots an opportunity to escape her
marriage and vanish, taking both Ray and the money with her. But the plan
rapidly starts to unravel... The Square is the first feature from Australian
stuntman-turned-director Nash Edgerton and his co-writer brother Joel, who also
stars in the film.
