Great Sugarloaf

Great Sugarloaf Ramble. Undertaken on Saturday 7th May 2005. This was a quick exploratory walk on Saturday morning to get away from the squarey computer screen.

Started from the roadside at 10.45 am and crossed up the quick flat grassy land and admired the views of Enniskerry and the main road from Enniskerry to Glendalough

The walk was brisk and felt similar to that of a mini-Croagh Patrick version ... after a halfway point the ascent was all loose rocks and unstable footing at a great sharp angle.

Finally got to the top at 11.15 am to take in the breath-taking views overlooking the N11 motorway and on day itself you can see as far as Ireland's Eye, Howth, Dublin Bay to the left and far down to Wicklow Head to the right - an impressive sight only to be washed down upon discovering the camera batteries went dead...(no cursing)

After a quick admiration of the views...back down the descent on another "path" - now see a few people beginning to make the ascent on this clear Saturday morning - landed back safetly to the car at .. guess 11.45 am .. Must be a record !!! Next time I'll bring spare batteries....
