In the Pipe...Again Hot on the heels of the EP Endangered Breed, Philip has been working on new material, some of which he hopes to include in the set by mid-July. The artist, impatient to get on with things, is currently also looking at equipment upgrades, specifically in the area of synthesis programming, which could mark a change in approach to the sound-making process. A live recording may also be on the cards in the not-too-distant future. Shooting for Roger Corman's production of "The Suicide Club" (A working title interchangeable with "The Club") has wrapped. Directed by Rachel Samuels and featuring Jonathan Price and Neil Stuke in the cast, the film is expected to premiere on the B Sky B network within the next year. Philip, whose own part in the film involved him in the shoot for just four days, expressed his immense enjoyment of the work, having found it a great oppurtunity to meet with those behind the scenes, and would like to thank the crew of Concorde and in particular Cressida Fallon of Academy 8 for all her help. Not forgetting of course the hero of the hour Billy from Glengarriff for dishing up the grub! Facing into busy months ahead for the musicians, Philip has recruited more into the line-up so that band members can now cover for each other. Newcomers are Galway man James Kane on drums, backing up Cormac, and Nicola Murphy of Cork covering for Rosina on fiddle. Does Philip have preferences? "What if I don't say?" he says. "Let's see if I can induce a little suspense." With these musicians? Yeah right, Philip... Philip returns to old territory on June 12th for a gig in Cork city at the Half Moon Theatre. Prior to being in Galway, Philip had based himself in Cork for a couple of years, getting to know the ins and outs of the local music scene and gigging with various bands while working on his own material. Now he's back to see how the Corkonians are doing, so if you're in Cork and you want to renew an old loyalty, now's your chance... A second outing in Clare territory is down for July, once more at Brandon's, Ennis. Following the last gig there, a good night is in the offing, so be there on Friday 23rd July. Finally, Philip goes to Cuba on Wed 23rd June. That's Cuba, Galway. With a killer sound system and killer sound engineers (Hi Sean, hi Rory), as dance venues go, it's arguably the best in the west. 'Nuff said. |
