ST.
PIUS X BOYS NATIONAL SCHOOL
OCTOBER 2005 NEWSLETTER
Dear
Parents/Guardians,
It’s hard to believe that we have
reached the mid term break. The boys have had a wonderful half term. Everyone
has worked very hard and deserves a well earned rest.
Olympic
Handball: - Boys from 4th and 5th Class
went to the National Basketball Arena to see an Olympic Handball 6 Nations
Tournament. To the school’s credit, St. Pius X were well represented with three
past pupils on the Irish team. Meanwhile both junior and senior teams
continue to train and prepare for their upcoming competitive fixtures. A big thank you to Mrs. Kneafsey and Ms. Pléamonn for
all their hard work in this area.
Gaelic
Football: - It’s been an exciting season for both Junior and Senior teams with both teams experiencing great wins against
stiff opposition. Both teams deserve great praise for the sportsmanship and
dedication they have shown in all of their matches. We are very fortunate too
in St. Pius X to have such willing and helpful parents,
who not only offer support at games, but also lifts to many of our away
matches. Thanks also to our coaching team, Mr. Kerins, Mr. Robinson
and Mr. Coyle for their tireless enthusiasm and work in organizing and
training the teams.
Gala
Dinner: - The 40th Anniversary Year of St. Pius X
schools reached its climax on the 30th September with a Gala Dinner
in the Burlington Hotel. An enjoyable and memorable night was had by all with
many taking the opportunity to catch up with old friends associated with the
school. The obvious hard work of organizing such a large event is both
admirable and appreciated. Many thanks to all involved. We look forward to 80th
anniversary dinner in 2045!
History: -
Ms. Grennan’s and
Ms. Mooney’s classes had fun making a time capsule for the future children of
St. Pius X ! Contained within the
capsule were the children’s dreams and aspirations both for themselves and the
school itself. The capsule was buried in the school grounds on
Music:
- As
some of you may already be aware, 3rd and 4th classes
have begun to learn the recorder. Already it is clear that this project will be
a great success. We look forward to seeing the progress the boys will make in
the coming term.
Operation Christmas
Child: – A big “THANK YOU” to all
the children who brought in a Shoe Box for children in need all around the
world. Your support of this worthy cause is very much appreciated.
Uniforms: - We are delighted with the huge percentage of boys wearing their uniforms
to school. They look very smart and we would encourage everybody to do
likewise.
Voluntary
Contribution: - We would like to thank all
of you very much for your Voluntary Contribution. The response has been
overwhelming and your generosity is really appreciated. Receipts are being
issued but if you have overlooked this, it’s still not too late.
School Buildings: - Planning Permission has been granted for a new
extension. It will go to tender in the near future and hopefully work will
commence as soon as possible after that.
I
want to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and happy Halloween.
