ST. PIUS X BNS

JUNE 2005 NEWSLETTER

The summer holidays are almost upon us and they will provide a well earned rest for everybody. The boys have worked extremely hard all year and have succeeded very well in the academic, sporting, cultural, religious and other areas. I would like to thank the teachers for their commitment and dedication and you the parents for your wonderful support.

We want to wish the 6th class boys well as they progress to Secondary School in the autumn. They have been a pleasure to teach and are a credit to themselves and to you their parents. We have no doubt that they will continue to do extremely well in the next phase of their school lives

FUNDRAISING

Our fundraising committee has again surpassed itself. Many events including a Golf Classic and a Dinner Dance were organised culminating in the fantastic Family Fun Day on Sunday 19th June. The Fund now stands at over €100,000 and this will be put to very good use in the development of the school.

SACRAMENTS

First Holy Communion and Confirmation were two of the highlights of the school year. The teachers of 2nd Class and 6th Class did Trojan work in preparing the boys for these sacraments and this was very evident on both occasions. I would like to thank most sincerely Ms. Grennan, Mr. Coyle,

Ms de Brún and Mr. Reámonn for making both days very special for the boys and their families.

SPORT

Hurling, Gaelic Football, Olympic Handball, Cricket and Basketball provided the opportunities for many boys to participate and excel in the sporting area. All the teams did extremely well. The Senior Olympic Handball team were pipped in a play off for the All Ireland Trophy while the Junior Team won the Leinster Championship. The Senior and Junior Hurling and Football teams did extremely and if last year is anything to judge by, we will be going to Croke Park next year. It is wonderful to see the Senior Infant Boys now starting Hurling. They are really enjoying it and will be in the life blood of Hurling up through the school. Many thanks to Mr. Hayes, Ms. Dempsey, Ms. Kneafsey, Ms. de Brún, Ms. Elliott for all their hard work.

SCHOOL CHOIR

The school choir under the direction of Anne Purcell performed exceptionally well at various events during the year and helped to make the First Holy Communion a really memorable occasion.
