OUR MUSIC PAGE

The tin whistle is a simple musical instrument. Traditionally it was made from tin but more recently wood and plastic have been used. It is formed of a whistle at the top of the pipe and six finger holes along the pipe which allow you to play two octaves, or sixteen notes. Each whistle has a fixed key and we usually use d or c whistles. There is a particular style of music called Traditional Irish music which is usually associated with the tin whistle but any tune can be played on it.

A selection of tin whistles the smaller the whistle the higher the key

This year 5th class and the special class started learning the tin whistle in October. At present we can play nearly 20 tunes! We took part in a concert in the local community hall on Fri 11th December where we played 6 christmas carols. The audience gave us a great welcome and even sang along with two of our tunes!
