Aran Islands

Teampall Bheanáin (Church of St. Benignus), from the 6th century, is one of many stone ruins on Inishmore. The Aran Islands, located off the west coast of Ireland, were a center for early Christian monasticism.

How to get there :

By Ferry : Passenger ferry only. Departs from Rossaveal -   Boat trip takes 30 min. Ferry leaves at 10.30am and returns at 5.00pm.
Extra trips are made during the Summer months

Inishmore : Travel by Bike, Pony Trap, Hiking or by one of the few mini buses available on the Island.

What to see : Forts - Dun Aengus, Dun Eoghanachta, Dun Eochla, Dun Ducathair Church sites: Teampoll MacDonagh, dating from the eight century. Castles: Arkin Fort. Tomb: Eochaill Wedge tomb.

Inishmaan : Hiking only.

What to see : Forts - Dun Conchuir and Dun Fearbhai. Church sites: Cill Cheannannach and Tempoll Mhuire. Tomb: Ceatru an Hisin Wedge tomb.

Inisheer : Hiking only. Smallest Island.

What to see : O'Brians Castle, Cill Ghobnait church Teampoll Chaomhain and Cill na Seacht nInion - 2nd to 6th century AD.
