Two fifth year students will travel to Lourdes to represent
the school at the Diocesan Pilgrimage. They are Patricia Morrissey and Rosita
Guidera. They will look after the pilgrims who are in need of assistance.
Good luck to both of you.
At the moment, the students are collecting for the Trocaire
fast. We have been part of this worthy cause for the last nine years.
PUBLIC SPEAKING
The Public Speaking Society has had a lively term during
which members of the Society represented the School in two major competitions.
The Public Speaking team won through to the regional finals of the Mental
health Public speaking Project. The team consisted of Siobhán Ryan
(Captain), Roisin Burke and Bridget Coffey and became on of three teams
out of over 400 teams to reach the final. Unfortunately, they were narrowly
beaten by Douglas Community College who are last year's All-Ireland winners.
Another member of the Public Speaking Society, Marianne
Corr represented the School in the Regional Finals of the Soroptomist's
International Public Speaking Competition. The competition was intense,
and although Marianne was not the eventual winner on this occasion, she
is a gifted speaker whom we look forward to hearing more of in the future.
Currently the Public Speaking Society are preparing a
video on speech-making. It is hoped that the video will be a valuable resource
in inspiring and training new recruits to the society.
