                                   PAIRED READING

Paired Reading is a pretty exciting way to read. In our school paired reading runs in the Junior and Senior Schools. Paired Reading is a great way to get all the children to read.We run it with the Transition Year student’s in the St John the Baptist Community School. Students come to our school once every week for forty minutes to hear us read.

WHAT IS PAIRED READING?

Paired Reading was first developed in England around 1976 by Roger Morgan . It is a simple way of reading with a child that can bring about a great improvement in reading ability. In tests many children using Paired Reading scored twice or three times the normal improvement over a given period of time. This is good news especially for the many children who find reading difficult to learn and as it works through stories it is also very enjoyable for them

Paired Reading gives enjoyment and a sense of achievement to the reader while at the same time building up self confidence .It is enjoyable and rewarding experience .If you would like to find out more about Paired Reading, read the book "HELPING CHILDREN READ –THE PAIRED READING GUIDE", by Roger Morgan. It is published by Methuen. Or e-mail us at Scoil Íosagáin.
