Green Schools Programme
Committee: On 9th December 2003 a green schools committee was formed. It consists of a representation of 2 teachers, 2 parents and 2 children from 4th, 5th and 6th classes respectively. The committee meets monthly for 30 minutes during lunch hour with the aim of providing a better quality environment within the school and its environs.
Litter: While it was advocated each child would be responsible for her own litter, a rota system was set up whereby children from 4th, 5th and 6th classes would be responsible for residual litter. Litter pickers were kindly donated by the Town Council and each week two children ensure the yard is litter free by the end of lunch hour.
Composting: Composting was undertaken in all the classrooms. Fruit peels and cores are collected from the classroom after lunch each day. The children witnessed the use of compost during tree planting ceremonies. Excess compost is used by the gardener in the adjacent Convent garden.
Paper: Paper recycling takes place in the classrooms and our parents council have a rota system for collecting the paper and subsequently removing it to the local paper bank.
Daffodil Planting: To enhance the school grounds, daffodil planting took place last October. See Daffodil Planting
