Fabric Surfaces [Method 1]
This is a method used to
simulate ribs on fabric-covered surfaces.
Cut Dymo labelling tape (or
any other strong tape) into thin strips. The strips should be slightly thinner
than the desired “rib”.
Lay the thin strips in the location
of the ribs according to drawings. Then, using increasingly finer sandpaper,
sand the plastic carefully making sure to avoid the thin strips of tape as much
as possible. The strips will act as “masks” and protect the plastic underneath.
This will create slight depressions and raised lines, simulating fabric
stretched over ribs.
Below are a finished part (upper)
and an “in-progress” part (lower).
A similar method can be used
to simulate ribs on ailerons (or any other fabric covered surfaces).
