Eindhoven Cup 2000 Match Reports
Match Reports:
Saturday 10th June 2000 - 11:40
Raheny Utd V's KJW FN Kleve Gel (Germany)
Our first game was against the eventual winners of
the tournament. After dominating the early
encounters the Germans hit Raheny on the counter attack and withsome of the defenders
found
out of their positions, the German center forward made no mistake from 15
yards. In the second
half Raheny lifted their game again only for an unforced defensive error leading to a
penalty which
was put away. The lads were very disappointed after the game but were determined to
put things
right in their next game.
Final Score: Raheny Utd 0 : 2 KJW FN Kleve Gel
Saturday 10th June 2000 - 14:00
Raheny Utd V's Tongelre (Holland)
The Dutch came into the game in confident mood, having won their opening
game in a comfortable
manner and were starting to look one of the favorites for the Tournament. Raheny
again dominated
the match from the start but were unable to take any of the chances that fell their way.
Once again
bad luck was to follow, as no sooner had the second half started, then the Dutch took the
lead. With
the score still remaining 1:0, it looked like Raheny were again going to come away with
nothing to show
for their hard work. However, with 5 minutes remaining, Paul Bradshaw (Skippy)
scored a wonderful
equaliser after Colm Brewer knocked across a perfect ball to him. Just as it looked
like the teams would
the points, Paul Bradshaw was again sent through on goal, only to be brought down in the
box. After some
consultation with his assistant referee, he decided to give a free kick on the edge of the
box. Raheny were
unable to make anything of the free, with the ball landing cleanly onto the keepers hands.
Feelings within the
Raheny camp was that they should have been awarded a penalty at the end of the game.
Final Score: Raheny Utd 1 : 1

Semi-Final
Raheny Utd V's BSC Old Boys (Switzerland)
The U.16 had problems before this game even started with injuries to
both of their centre halfes Ross Sherlock
and Alan Duffy .This left us with the bare 11 going into a semi final
.Matters got worse two minutes into the game
as Colm Brewer was sin binned for five minutes for a late tackle .During these five
minutes the Swiss tested us but
thanks to dogged defending we got out of jail. As the half neared the end Stephen Fanning
went by two defenders
only to drag the ball onto his right foot with only the keeper to beat , he sensibly sent
the ball to James Hegeraty
who hit the ball at goal only for it to be cleared off the line. The second half was very
tense affair with the only highlight
a superb save from Stephen Hyland in goal .The game went into penalties with Raheny losing
2-0 .Colm Brewer,
Joe Clancy, Skippy and Brian Fitzgerald(Lizzy) all missed their penalties.

4th Place Play-Off
Raheny Utd V's Grun Weiss
It was obvious from the start of this game that all the players were
very tired and that the game was going to be
played at a very slow pace. With only ten minutes remaining Skippy opened the scoring with
a very well taken
goal .Stephen Fanning added a second thanks to great work from Gary Murphy two minutes
later.
