Term Ends on 24th June

Here is a message from Fr Michael, Chairperson of the School Board of Management:

"There is a line in a song which says, 'Another year older and deeper in debt.' Thankfully we are not in debt but we are indebted to so many people for a wonderful and successful year in our school.

It is mainly successful because our children have been educated and also have enjoyed their time in school. This is mainly due to the dedication and skills of our teaching and ancillary staff. But it is also a tribute to their personal care and kindness with which they treat our children.

It has been a joy for me to work with all our staff and to prepare the children for the reception of two special Sacrements. I know the parents also appreciate the work done in the school and on their behalf I express our sincere thanks to all who made the year run so smoothly.

To the boys and girls in Sixth Class who launch out next week into the deep world I pray God's blessing on your life journey. To all pupils and staff I say, 'Have a good Summer holiday and come back in September sun tanned and full of energy.'"

Slán anois. Fr. Michael

Website Committee

The website committee is made up of three members of staff, three 6th class pupils and two 5th class pupils. Special thanks is due to the 6th class committee members who initially got the agreement of the Principal to update the website and whose expertise and support in the area of ICT have been invaluable. Many thanks to the three of you and good luck at your new school.

Opening of athletics track at the Sligo IT

On Friday 4th June the school took part in the opening of the track with a schools' relay racing day. About 20 National schools from the local area took part in the day. Rathcormac School took 24 pupils. Names were drawn out of a hat for those taking part. The emphasis was on participation not on winning. Needless to say we did not win any finals but all enjoyed taking part!

Sports Day

A great day was had by all and our congratulations to everyone for making it so successful. We were lucky with the weather but we were also fortunate in having a sixth class who really ran the day themselves and gave so much of their time and energy to the rest of the school. Thank you and thank you to all their teachers as well.

We were joined by pupils from St Cecilia's School who took part in many of the events. It was great to see an integrated event where children regardless of abilities and disabilities shared a day together. We were impressed with the welcome our pupils gave the children from St Cecilia's and with the warm welcome and fun they brought to us. We look forward to more shared events.

Sligo Finals

Both our girls' and boys' teams qualified for the county finals. It was tremendous to see the atmosphere created by our supporters in Markievicz Park. In an absorbing encounter our girls lost by 2 points to Calry. However they could easily have won and played with great spirit.

The boys' team won their final against the Mercy Primary School and recorded an historic three titles in a row at this level. They played with great verve and vsion throughout.

Scorelines:

Girls' Final
Rathcormac 1:3
Calry 1:5 :

Boys' Final
Rathcormac 3:7
Mercy 0:2

Seashore Project

6th Class pupils had a day out at the seashore with environmental scientist Bob Crowe from the Regional College in Sligo. They were looking at the shore line environment and had an excellent day. Our thanks to Bob for the day and for these photographs from his website

Building for the Future
Update on the "Lissadell House Project"

Project Coordinator Mr Carl O' Rourke is pleased to announce that our project on Lissadell House has been submitted for judgement over the summer. He wishes to thank all the teachers and pupils in the school who put so much time and effort into the completion. Thanks are also due to the new owners of Lissadell House, Mr Edward Walsh and Ms Constance Cassidy, and their children, and to local historian, Joe McGowan in assisting us to locate information on the history of the house.
