Visit from Fr Diarmaid Sheehan from Ghana

Dessie Dolan Visits 3rd Class!

Dessie Dolan, the Westmeath footballer and winner of a 2004 All-star, came to visit 3rd class on the 16th of February. He gave us a 20 minute gaelic training session. It was really good. We practiced our fist passing and we did lots of warm-up exercises. We wish he could have stayed longer. He gave an autograph to everyone in the class. Some people got their bags and pencil-cases signed. One person even wanted to get their face autographed!
Everyone got to ask Dessie a question. He answered questions about his life and all about his training. It sounded like he had no spare time at all! He also told us all about the places and countries he had visited, like Australia, Hong Kong and America. He told us what it was like to play in Croke Park and about the most memorable match he had played. Dessie also told us about the screw he has in his ankle to hold his foot together. Dessie’s brother plays for Westmeath too. His name is Gary.
We gave Dessie a card we had made for him, and we all got our photos taken with him and the All-star trophy. We were allowed to hold the trophy too. It was very, very heavy but we all managed to lift it. Dessie was very funny, and we really enjoyed his visit!

Good news for Greenflag

The school has sent off its application form for the greenflag status. Each class has done some art work using recyclable materials. They made posters and have even made some 3D models, pictures and sculptures using recycled materials. Inspectors will be coming into the school to check our progress with the recycling. We hope to get our Greenflag in May.

National Tree Week

For National Tree Week each class is planting a native Irish tree. These are some of the trees we are planting: Sycamore, Oak, Silver Birch, Hazel, Alder, Holly and Beech.

Book Fair

The Book Fair was a great success with €2131 being spent on books. There was great interest shown by all classes, a real boost to reading in the school and at home. In addition the school gets 60% of the money returned to the school in the form of books for class libraries. Thank you for supporting your child's reading.
