The Play
Ms. Scrooge NT

On Friday the 20th of December 5th & 6th of Ratheniska N.S. performed the Christmas play Mrs Scrooge by Willie John Creedon

The play opened with a group of perished looking children sitting perished in a classroom.

Mrs Scrooge a selfish and greedy teacher who learns to appreciate children and her life to be generous and selfless. In her flea ridden flat the soon to be selfless scrooge rumaged through her flat looking for 50cent from the childrens swimming money, Once again the meter had run out. After she had finished with the childrens savings she cuddled back up in bed with her only friend her teddy bear! When sleep came eventually an unexpected visitor came calling.
“Scrooge, Scrooge,” exclaimed the unexpected visitor.  “Wake up,Wake up,” she shouted, But the weary Scrooge was convinced that this was another door to door sales man.  “Be off with you , you blackguard,” shouted Scrooge.  “Oi that’s no way to talk to a ghost!” “Well that’s what you get for reading horror stories before bed,” answered the convinced Scrooge. After alot of convincing, the stubborn Scrooge allowed the ghost to bring her into the past, once it was not a replay of the fight in Saipan, Scrooge bet 10 Euro that Roy Keane would score the first goal for Ireland in the World Cup.
On arrival to the past Scrooge recognized this place as her childhood classroom, an unforgettable narky childhood teacher, Mr Smack Scrooge remembered this man as the best man ever to swing a stick.  After seeing herself as a child Scrooge realised how much she had changed but the problem was she thought she had changed for the better.  Scrooge went back to her flea ridden flat.  When back in bed on her way to dreamland a very scary and dark looking visitor came knocking.  “Scrooge,Scrooge,Scrooge”she declared. When Scrooge was finally fully awake she told her she was the ghost of Christmas present, When Scrooge refused to follow her she found her weak point and made it clear that the night time rate is 60 Euro per hour, she jumped out of the bed fairly quick. After been shown what her School kids did this evening (carol singing at the shopping centre for goal) they returned to her room, And the ghost who was half way between living and dead told her to change her tune and QUICK.
And going back to bed for a 3rd time she was woken again. “Scrooge, Scrooge wake up”.  “If it’s the loo you want it’s on the top of the stairs on the right,” explained Scrooge.  “No I’m the ghost of Christmas future. The night is going quickly and I have much to show you.” “Ok Ok lead the way.”When Scrooge was taken into the future she realized that she was brought into her classroom and that the children had a nasty surprise when the inspector comes.  The inspector was in old Scrooges classroom inspecting her class(a nasty lot they were).  “Well Mrs Scrooge everything seemsto be in order , now seeing as it is Christmas maybe the class might sing a seasonal song or two,” asked the inspector Miss Brid  MacBrain.  “No bother to them sure aren’t they like larks in the morning.  Ok class The 12 day of Christmas.” But the children had completely turned it around and the inspector was not happy.  “On the  first day of Christmas my teacher gave to me a page of history, On the second day of Christmas my teacher gave to me two poems to learn and a page of history.
When the inspector had finished and calmed down old Scrooge found himself fired without even free fuel vouchers or free travel on Dublin bus. When he realised this he immediately dropped dead on the classroom floor.  When the inspector shouted for help,to help revive the overcomed teacher from the children they seemed that they couldn’t care less.  “God rest the poor mans soul”said the Inspector, But Scrooges soul won’t go to heaven, miss, he sold it last year for 2,000 Euro” Bell ,one of the students, informned the inspector.
Scrooge was horrified when he realised this was the way his life will end.  “No spirit ….. No .. I’ll change I promise I’ll change”begged  Scrooge , and the ghost made sure she had changed by making him handover her last rolo after a little hesitation Scrooge gave the ghost her last rolo. The next day Scrooge celebrated Christmas holidays with taytos and sweets for the whole class.
Our version of the play ended with a beautiful song Oh Holy Night lead by Arlena Lennon,Laura O’Connell,Emily Kerry and Sarah Stapleton, with the whole class joining in on the Chorous.
