To explore Rathmullan's history start at the pier and walk along Front Street to the top
of the town where a short diversion up The Brae takes you to St. Columb's Church.
You can complete the small loop and get a glimpse of Portnamurry before retracing
your steps. As you return, enjoy the views of the town with its hills and hollows strung
out along Lough Swilly's shore, looking across the Lough to Inch Island and Fahan.
For a longer walk, continue to Rathmullan Wood, half a mile (1km) further on.
For a scenic woodland and beach walk go along the cul-de-sac at the
White Harte, entering "The Walks" at the Ferry Gate. This path skirts the
seashore with lovely views across Lough Swilly to the Inishowen
mountains. When you get to the Rooty Brae you can return along the
beach (tide permitting). If you wish to go further , continue along the
dunes or the beach past Fort RoyalHotel to the Kinnegar beach. It is less
than one mile (1.5km) from here to Killygarvan Bridge. If the tide is in,
continue to the end of "The Walks" and turn right along the road to get to
the Kinnegar, or turn left to return to the town, enjoying the inland view of
Croaghan Hill.
