King
Ends Reign At Finn Park
Noel
King has sensationally quit as Harps manager only two days after overseeing
his team take a point against Galway in Terryland Park.
The
reasons given by the Dubliner were mostly because of the travelling
involved and his family life although it is known that his commitment
to the Ladies International team also had a lot to do with the decision.
King
had replaced Jonathan Speak after the start of last season's campaign
when the Sion-man was controversially sacked. He guided Harps to a record
equaling six game winning streak and at one stage Harps looked a solid
bet to lift their first ever league title. But poor form including defeats
away to Bray Wanderers and Dublin City towards the end of the season
left Harps with another dreaded playoff which they eventually lost out
in extra-time to great rivals Derry City.
It
was with some surprise that King returned for the start of this season.
But losing the likes of Johnny Kenny, Donal O'Brien and the prolific
Damien Whitehead without any of them being properly replaced, Harps
have failed to impress this term. Maybe it is not surprising that the
board of directors and King could reach this decision so amicably.
In
a season that is so vital to the club with three teams being promoted
they have already dropped vital points at a very early stage. It is
critical to Harps' chances that a manager is found and the team is strengthened
as soon as possible.
Noel King During Playoffs In Bray Last Season
Already,
former Waterford supremo Jimmy McGeogh has emerged as favourite with
Roddy Collins and Paul 'Ski' McGee also in the frame.
Sean
McGowan will take charge in a caretaker role until a suitable replacement
is found. 'The Wizard' will be hoping that he can keep his players focused
for the visit of title hopefuls Bray this Friday night.
