Travel Grants

The organisers of the 12th European Conference on Reading - The International Development in Europe Committee of the International Reading Association and the Reading Association of Ireland – are making available a small number of travel grants to persons living in Eastern Europe (including former Soviet-block countries) wishing to present a paper at the 12th European Conference, who are unable to meet all of the expenses involved.

The travel grants, worth between $200 and $300 each, are intended to supplement other grants/funds the applicant may have applied for. The following conditions and procedures will apply:

1.                  Applicants must have been informed that their proposal has been accepted by the Conference Programme Committee. Acceptances will be sent out by January 31,  2001.

2.                  A letter of application for a travel grant must be submitted by  applicant’s National Reading Association. Applications should be received by the Conference Secretariat, Educational Research Centre, St Patrick’s College, Drumcondra, Dublin 9, Ireland (Fax: +353-1-837-3789; E-mail: reading@eircom.net)  by  February 28th, 2001. The letter of application should outline how attendance at the Conference will contribute to the applicant’s professional development and how the applicant proposes to raise other monies required for attendance at the Conference (i.e., accommodation, meals, conference fee etc.).

3.                  The Conference organisers (the International Development in Europe Committee and the Reading Association of Ireland) will choose, from among the applications received (and with reference to the grant money that is available), those who are most in need of support. Applicants will be informed of the status of their applications by March 31, 2001.

4.                  A reduced Conference Fee and limited assistance with accommodation may apply to travel grant recipients, where the Conference organisers are satisfied that the recipient would not otherwise be able to attend the Conference.
