The Market Square. There were no motor cars, no electric lights, no proper roads and no traffic lights. Men all wore hats or caps. There is a water fountain in the square now. There is a bank now where F.P.Cooper premises were. Then they had crossing paths so that people didn't get too muddy. People came from the country to sell eggs, butter, foul, vegetables, ducks, turkeys and fish. The streets were very muddy. There were gas lights in the street and a man went around turning the lights on at night and off in the morning. The square has been modernised in the last few years. By Michael |
