01 Power or capacity to do or act in any relation.    Competence in chess or on the field of action, from the possession of capacity, skill, means, or other qualification.  Talents, mental gifts or endowments.   Capability, proficiency, expertness, dexterity. 

02 Ability, faculty, talent denote mental qualifications or powers.   Ability is a general word for mental power, native or acquired, enabling one to do things well.   A person of great ability, ability in chess, etc. 

03 Faculty denotes a natural ability for a particular kind of action: a faculty for saying what s/he means. 

04 Talent is often used to mean a native ability or aptitude in a special field.   A talent for music, art, chess.
