Magic

01 It takes seriously the supra-logical elements in the human mind.   Magic is no more than a change in consciousness and by doing so you become a magician or enchantress.   It is based on psychology and parapsychology.

02 In Egypt it was personified as Hike and the mysterious power possessed by gods and pharaoh.

03 The Raven is the bringer of magic (a change in consciousness).

04 Black

does not mean evil (it can mean seeking answers, entering the void).   The magic of darkness that brings awakening in the process.   The Raven is guardian of ceremonial magic and patron of smoke signals or spirit messages represented by smoke.

05 The Lynx is the keeper of the secrets of lost magical systems and occult knowledge.

06 The apple, the Silver Bough, is the fruit of the Celtic underworld and has magical powers.

07 Starhawk: “Language shapes consciousness and the use of language to shape consciousness is an important branch of magic” (‘Dreaming the Dark’).

08 Magic squares: quadratic arrangements of numbers so that the sum of files, ranks and diagonals are equal to one another.    Planet seal: magic squares associated with each of the planets having 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 numerals to a side.   Sigilla Saturnis, Jovis, Martis, Solis, Veneris, Mercuris and Lunae.   Letter squares are also known as Sator-Arepo Formula.   Magic squares seemingly originated in India and came to Europe via Arabia.

09 Tarnhelm: a magic helmet which secures the invisibility of the wearer or enables one to change appearance at will.    In Wagner’s opera Der Ring des Nibelungen: ‘The magical strangeness of the wishing cap or tarnhelm’.

The sum of the numbers (however placed in horizontal, diagonal, vertical) always results as 15.   This magic square is the development of the ‘Rose of the Winds’ and indicates, once again, the four cardinal directions and the four subordinate directions.   The 5, equidistant (of four units) from beginning to end of the number sequence, indicates the central point.

Before passing onto the square which corresponds to the chessboard, a further example, the magic square 4 x 4 is present (together with other magic/esoteric elements) in the famous engraving of A. Dürer from the title Melancoly.
