SQUARING IT WITH VIZROS

To do this Tutorial you will need the Vizros Box plugin filter, unfortunately the Vizros
plugin filters are no longer free, however you can try out a restricted trial version here

This Tutorial will show you how to achieve the revolving Box effect shown in the below tag

I have tried to write this Tutorial with PSP beginners in mind, I have included
lots of screen shots, and have gone into much detail to explain the various steps

This tutorial was wrote for Paint Shop Pro X, but I have tested it in
PSP 8, any resemblance to any other tut on the web is purely coincidental

OK here we go

( REMEMBER TO SAVE REGULARLY)

STEP (1)

For this Tutorial you will require 2 different images with
the same dimensions 200 X 200 pixels, you can if you wish
download and use these 2 images "Eye Open" and "Eye Closed"

STEP (2)

Open your version of PSP, go to the Overhead Bar, then go to File
and in its drop-down menu, click open when its pop-up box appears
find, and select the "Eye Open" image, (or your own image) Click Open

NEXT

Go to your Layer Palette, and Right Click on the Background Layer, on it's pop-up
menu, click Promote Background Layer, it will automatically be renamed Rasher 1,

NEXT

Go to the Overhead Bar, then go to Image and in its drop-down menu, click Canvas
Size, when its pop-up box appears change the Canvas size to 400x400 pixels, click OK

NEXT

Go to your Layer Palette and right click on Rasher 1, Layer,
and then Duplicate it 7 times, rename the Duplicated layers:-

Rasher 2,
Rasher 3,
Rasher 4,
Rasher 5,
Rasher 6,
Rasher 7,
Rasher 8,

STEP (3)

Go to the Overhead Bar, then go to File and in its drop-down menu,
click Save As, when its pop-up box appears name your file, I have
named it "The Vizros Eye Box (how to)" then click Save (as a PSP file)

Your Document and Layer Palette, should now look similar to this

STEP (4)

Go to your Layer Palette and Select Rasher 1, Layer

NEXT

Go to the Toolbar and select the Magic Wand, then on its overhead bar make these settings

NEXT

Go to your Document and Click your Magic Wand on a transparent
part of the Document, this will make a Selection (Marching Ants)
around the "Eye Open" image and the out-line of the Document

NEXT

Go to the Overhead Bar, then go to Selections, and in its drop-down menu, click Invert

Your Document should now look look this

STEP (5)

With Rasher 1, Layer selected, go to the Overhead Bar, then go
to Effects, and in its drop-down menu, click Plugins/Vizros/Box

when its pop-up box appears make these settings

Make these settings for the Background Page,

STEP (6)

With the Vizros settings Box still up, select the "Y Page", and Click the New Button

NEXT

When the Pop-Up Box appears locate and select this
"Eye Closed" Image (or your own Image) click open


When this Pop-Up appears click OK

Your "Y Page" will now look like this (showing the Eye Closed image) Click OK


STEP (7)

With the Selection (Marching Ants) still active around your
Image, go to your Layer Palette and select Rasher 2, Layer

NEXT

Go to the Overhead Bar, then go to Effects, and in
its drop-down menu, again click Plugins/Vizros/Box
this action will make the Vizros "Y Page" re-appear,
the settings will be the same as made in (Step 5)

NEXT

Go to "View Angle" (Top Right of the "Y" Page) and change the Horiz setting to 20

NEXT

Click the New Button, When the Pop-Up Box appears locate and
select the "Eye Closed" Image (or your own Image) click open

NEXT

When the "Eye Closed" Pop-Up appears click OK, the "Y Page" should now look like this

Click OK

STEP (8)

In turn, make these settings for the other 6 Rasher Layers

Select Rasher 3, Layer, on the "Y Page" set Horiz Setting to 30,

Select Rasher 4, Layer, on the "Y Page" set Horiz Setting to 40,

Select Rasher 5, Layer, on the "Y Page" set Horiz Setting to 50,

Select Rasher 6, Layer, on the "Y Page" set Horiz Setting to 60,

Select Rasher 7, Layer, on the "Y Page" set Horiz Setting to 70,

NOTE:- Click the new Button to import the "Eye Closed"
Image for all Rasher Layers, except Rasher 8, Layer

Select Rasher 8, Layer, on the "Y Page" set Horiz Setting to 90,

Click OK

STEP (9)

On your Keyboard hold down the Ctrl Key and tap down the D Key,
this will deselect your document (stop the Marching Ants)

With all the Layer Eye Icons on, your Document should look like this

Arrange you Layer Palette like this

NEXT

Go to the Overhead Bar, then go to View and in its drop-down menu, tick Grid and Snap to Grid

Again go to View and in its drop-down menu, click on Change Grid, Guide & Snap Properties,
when the pop-up box appears make these current image settings, (the Grid color is optional)

Click OK

Your Document should now look like this

NEXT

Go to the Toolbar and select the Pick Tool (Deform Tool for PSP 8)

With Rasher 8, Layer, selected, go to your Document, holding
down your Mouse drag the Eye Image to the middle of the grid
lines then release your mouse, the influence of the "Snap To Grid"
will automatically align the Eye Image 100% to the Grid Line Centre

In turn select the other Rasher Layers and drag the Eye Image to the middle of the grid line

As a check, look at the overhead settings for the Pick Tool (Deform Tool for PSP 8)
if alignment is correct you should have these settings (highlighted in pink)

Note:- these settings may vary slightly for each Layer, e.g. 200.00 to 200.10

With all the Layer Eye Icons on Your Document should now look like this

NEXT

Go to the Overhead Bar, then go to View and in its
drop-down menu, tick Grid, your Grid Lines are now off

STEP (10)

To give our Animation a smooth action we will trim the bottom of each Image

Go to your Layer Palette, and create a new Rasher Layer, name it Background,
and with your mouse drag and position it under Rasher 1, Layer

NEXT

Go to your Material Palette and make the Foreground Black (Shift+Ctrl+F6)

NEXT

Go to the Toolbar and select the Flood Fill Tool

NEXT

With the Background Layer selected, click your Document to fill it with the Black

NEXT

Go to the Toolbar and select the Pick Tool (Deform Tool for PSP 8)

On it's Overhead Bar change the setting for Position Y: to 276, (highlighted in pink)

With all the Layer Eye Icons on, your Document should now look like this

STEP (11)

Go to the Toolbar and select the Magic Wand, you should still have these settings

NEXT

With the Background Layer selected, go to your Document, and click your Magic Wand on the
black, this will make a selection (Marching Ants) around the black section of your Document

Your Document should now look like this

NEXT

With the Marching Ants still active on your Document, go to your Layer Palette and select
Rasher 8, Layer, then tap down your Delete Key,(once only) to trim the bottom of the Image

NEXT

In turn carry out this delete step to the other 7 Rasher Layers

NEXT

On your Keyboard hold down the Ctrl Key and tap down the D Key,
this will deselect your document (stop the Marching Ants)

NEXT

Go to you Layer Palette and select the Background Layer, and tap down your Delete key

NEXT

Go to the Toolbar and select the flood fill Tool, then go to your
Material Palette and select a Color, Gradient, Pattern, of your choice

NEXT

Click your Document to fill it

That's it we are done, all you need to do now is to
take it into Animation Shop, set these display times

Frame 1, 50
Frame 2, 10
Frame 3, 10
Frame 4, 10
Frame 5, 10
Frame 6, 10
Frame 7, 10
Frame 8, 50
