Croquet Ireland
| OBrien emerges victorious |
The first two golf croquet competitions of the season have been completed at Rushbrooke Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club.
The first, the William Murphy perpetual
trophy was contested on May 12th in splendid
conditions and was won by Ken OBrien after he narrowly
defeated Gregory Burke in a well contested final.
A field of 18 competed and the standard of play was of the
highest standard for the opening tournament of the season.
The only doubles competition on the club
calendar, the Frewen Cup was held on June 4th.
An entry of twenty four competed and a number of new faces were
evident.
The winning partnership of Ken OBrien and John Hannon Snr
defeated Frank Mc Donnell and Martin Cusack in the final match
watched by a large gathering of enthusiastic supporters. Again
the weather was kind and the food was prepared and barbequed by
resident chef Gregory Burke.
