Roscrea 2000 Commentary

Our Theme: Roscrea 2000 Serving the Community

This year entry depicts all the various activities which Roscrea 2000 has
on offer to the Community of Roscrea.

Roscrea 2000 is a limited company under the umbrella of ADM. It has been in
existence since 1997. It provides a wide range of services which are represented on our float
today.

Our entry is divided into four sections which represents some of the many services we
provide, namely …

· Fas Community Employment – This provides employment to long term unemployed, lone
parents and members of the travelling community. At present we have 32 fas participants on our scheme. Work
within the scheme in Roscrea 2000 involves pre-school assistants, laundry operators, childcare
assistants, environmental labourers, stonemasons, interior decorators, carpentry, clerical assistant
and cleaning duties. This scheme has made an enormous contribution to community life in Roscrea. Projects
to date include the renovation and building of the new Leisure Centre Complex, environmental upgrading in
the local community housing estates and the erection of the Christmas Town Crib each year to name just a
few. · Childcare – This colourful display represents the activities of the Jack and Jill Community Creche
which provides daily childcare for children from 3 months to 3 years. This service allows parents to take part
in the many courses and groups which Roscrea 2000 provide. The Busy Bees Pre School caters for children
from the ages of 4 – 5 years, where up to date children's education is catered for. Transport is provided for
this service which is funded by the Department of Education. An exciting new Youth Development
Project will play an active part in our programme of activities in the coming months to include after
schools clubs, youth groups, and summercamps. · N.C.V.A. Second Chance Education – An intensive second chance education programme
is provided on a daily basis at the centre. Subjects include catering, childcare, music appreciation, personal
effectiveness, maths, communication, and computers. This has given many people an opportunity to
get involved once again in an education system with a difference as all subjects are project led. An
individual and group literacy service is also provided. Information on any of the above services can be had by calling in or phoning Roscrea 2000 Ltd Community
Resource Centre New Line Roscrea. Kennedy Park Community Entry Commentary This years entry named “Young At Heart Kennedy Park” shows the wonderful work which
is going on in the park!. Kennedy park development group, Kennedy park womens group and Corville after schools
club have all joined together to put on this magnificent display of colour and fun which
shows a true community spirit. The effort and work which has gone into preparing for this entry is just a taste of the good
working spirit which exists in the estate. Now we will have a poem specially written by Rebecca Simmons, which will give you an
insight into this years entry. This poem will be read now by Rebecca Simmons, Tara
Walshe, and Gabrielle Feehan.
