Monasterevin derives its name from the Monastery of Saint
Evin. St. Evin came
here in the 6th Century. He liked this place because of the trees and river, the
flat land and the peacefulness.
So he built his monastery here. St. Evin's Feast
Day is on 22nd December. The monastery was attacked by pirates in the 12th
Century. Cistercian monks came to Monasterevin and built a monastery in Moore
Abbey.
