On October 5th, 2000 the pupils of Scoil Eimhín Naofa started tin-whistle
lessons.
They have the privilege of a professional instructor who introduced them to the basic notes and scales. The pupils are most enthusiastic and excitement grows throughout the school as they play their newly acquired instruments. Within a short time many children have succeeded in performing tunes. The lessons are enjoyable for all and continue each Thursday throughout the school year. On Saint Patrick's Day all the classes displayed their talents by playing a selection of tunes at a School Celebration for this Feast Day. In December senior pupils played their tin whistles at the Ceremony of Turning on the Christmas Lights in Monasterevin. In May the Sixth Class visited the Kolbe Centre in Portlaoise and performed a variety of tunes on the whistle, along with some Irish and Modern Dance. |
