Mercy Centennial

In 1998 The Sisters of Mercy were one hundred years in Monasterevin. The occasion was marked with numerous events culminating with Concelebrated Mass.

To commemorate the feast of Our Lady of Mercy and to mark the beginning ofCatherine's Statue outside Mercy International a new school year, Mass was celebrated in the Parish Church on September 24th. The school children participated in the liturgy and the singing for the Mass.

The following day, Friday September 25th, the pupils of Scoil Eimhín Naofa presented a beautiful tribute in honour of Catherine McAuley, (foundress of the Sisters of Mercy) and the Monasterevin Community. The tribute included song, mime, drama, verse, liturgical readings and art work.

On September 30th. the Sisters of Mercy treated the Staff  of Scoil Eimhín Naofa  to a visit to the Mercy International Centre, Baggot Street. They were entertained to dinner and a very inspiring and informative tour of the Centre by Sisters of Mercy from New Zealand, Newfoundland, the United States and Ireland.

During the first week of November a display of photographs, roll books, old school books and other items of interest were on view in the school.

On November 6th. Bishop Laurence Ryan concelebrated Mass in the Parish Church. This was followed by a Dinner Dance in The Hazel Hotel which proved to be a great reunion and an enjoyable celebration.

A commemorative tree, presented by the school staff, was planted in the school garden. It is a Red Oak.
