Extra-curricular activities

The College seeks to promote in its students the adoption of an active and healthy life-style. With this in mind a full programme of physical education and a broad range of sporting activities are on offer.

Participation in sport contributes to the physical, social and emotional development of the young person and is an important element of school life.

The College is provided with excellent facilities in the form of a sports hall, squash court, outdoor basketball/tennis court, football pitch and the Fastnet Marine and Outdoor Education Centre for water sport activities.

Sports on offer are football, hurling, soccer, basketball, volleyball, rugby, badminton, squash, athletics, table tennis, sailing and canoeing.

In recent years school teams have been successful at county level in football, basketball and athletics and at national and international level in sailing.

Further to seeking to promote an active and healthy life-style by participation in sport and outdoor pursuits, the College also promotes participation in matters cultural and artistic. Students are consistently encouraged to enter literary and art competitions together with competitions and projects involving skills and enterprise. Students are also encouraged to help organise and participate in a local annual arts weekend.

Music and dance are an active feature of school life with a stage production being presented for the public annually. School trips are organised to places of educational and cultural interest and to outdoor education centres. Groups from the College have competed, always with a good deal of success, in a wide range of competitions, from cookery to film making.
