Carrigaline
Carrigaline is located in the south of Ireland. It is a satellite town and located 7 miles south of Cork city.It has a population of nearly 12,000 whereas 30 years ago the population was little more than 300.Carrigaline got its name from Carraig Ui leighin, a nearby rock where a Norman settler, Philp de Prendergast built his castle around 1171. One of the main industries up to recent years was the Carrigaline Pottery which provided much employment for locals. There are many local historical historical landmarks in Carrigaline, namely St. John's Well and Ballea Castle, where a white horse is painted on the rock below it.
Carrigaline was twinned with Guidel, Brittany in 1987 and the Carrigaline Pipe Band were there to welcome the visitors. by Adrian Lynch.

Carrigaline is only 12km. from Cork City and only 5Km. from Ringaskiddy Ferryport and Cork Airport. Carrigaline is probably best known for its pottery. It also has some famous landmarks such as St. John's Well, The Owenabue River and Ballea Castle. The Currabinny Forest Trail is also a short distance from Carrigaline. If you fancy a walk there is a long path going from Carrigaline to Crosshaven along the old railway line. It doesn't take long to go to one of the many surrounding beaches. Carrigaline is a beautiful place. The river that runs through it is called the Owenabue. The population of Carrigaline has grown rapidly over the last few years. It has grown from under 1,000 to well over 10,000. The hotel in Carrigaline is called the Carrigaline Court. There is also a very famous well called St. John's Well, after which the Girls' National School is named. Carrigaline is about 7 miles outside Cork City.
