.:
Packaging :.
Completely
contrasting to the previous release, the cover is has
a red/white/black colour scheme with a prodominance of
white. The front cover is basically the Special Version
theatrical poster, but with a DVD logo placed in the bottom
left corner. A reflective silver "BR" logo is
also a nice little touch. The back cover seems pretty
chaotic: text everywhere with random publicity shots scattered
about. The spine (not pictured) has Battle Royale in katakana
written vertically with the kanji for "Special Version"
placed under.
.:
Disc Art :.

Minimalist
but quite effective. The disc shows one single picture,
tinted in red: Kitano smiling after killing Fujiyoushi.
The logo is written on the disc in both Japanese and English.
.:
Menus :.
Quite
possibly some of the nicest menus I've seen. I'm not the
greatest fan of animated menus. Before they seemed quite
cool and different, but lately everyone is doing overly
elaborate and frustrating animations. Following a fake
start to the film in which your dvd gets hacked by The
Third Man, your are brought to the Main Menu. Like the
previous release, Toei have stuck with the formula: Main
Menu = Subtle animation + Music. Every other menu = Static
+ Music. And it works perfectly fine. Every menu has music
from the movie playing along. Each page of the Chapters
Select menus have music appropriate to what scenes are
selectable (eg. "Mimura's Detemination" plays
on the same page where the scene is selectable). The Special
Features section is referred to as BR Memorial and very
cleverly, all the supplemental material is placed in chronological
order.
