The Menus:
So the first thing I did when the disc arrived was to go straight to the main menu (its takes you there automatically anyway). I was shocked to say the least. I was expecting a rather basically designed menu, with some video from the movie playing in the back and some of Masamichi Amanos fantastic score playing over it. But no... Instead, I was presented with one of the most annoying menus I have ever seen. The menu (a picture of it below) is overcrowded and presents the user with too many things happening at the one time ...and it drove me crazy! See, theres this really badly drawn Anime-like (and I use that term very lightly) drawing of Yuka Miyamura that speaks her lines from the movie. To the right of this is a looped video of Keiko saying "Arigato" (from Kawadas flashback). Whilst this is happening there's little windows popping up showing scenes from the movie. I found this odd, because these are clearly spoilers. The pop-up windows show us the lighthouse scene and actually shows Mitsuko getting shot! All three of these things are happening at the one time, the audio from all three playing at the same time. And it gets very annoying!!!! The animation ends with the Anime character trying to take the neck-collar off and it explodes ¬_¬ I don't know what they were thinking!!! The menus are the most disappointing aspect to this dvd. On a better note, the chapter menus are more bearable. 20 animated chapter selections are spread out over 5 pages, all of which have a loop of "Shizukana Hibi No Kaidan Wo" from Dragon Ash playing.
All menus are enhanced for 16x9
