SALESIANS IN IRELAND

The Salesian work in Ireland began in 1919 in Pallaskenry, Co. Limerick. Today the Salesians work for young people in a number of centres throughout the country. The following is a brief summary of the work in Ireland:

Salesian House, Ballinakill, Portlaoise, Co. Laois

Up to the early 1990s, the Salesians had a secondary school here. This then became Heywood Community School. The Salesian community in Ballinakill was finally closed in September 2004. A Salesian has remained as chaplain to the school, and lives in the gate lodge.
