Provos attend British police meetings

“IN THE normal course of a councillor’s work he or she will be in contact with the police in various different ways. (Provisional) Sinn Féin councillors have fulfilled their roles in that regard”.
The above statement was made by a spokesperson for Newry district council on January 22 confirming reports that the Provisionals regularly attend meetings with the British colonial police (RUC/PSNI).

While the Provisionals maintain the public façade that they will not meet with or endorse the new-style RUC, in reality their elected representatives constantly rendezvous with Crown Forces personnel.

The matter came to light following a meeting between Downpatrick councillors and the RUC/PSNI on January 17 to discuss crime in the town which was attended by Provo councillor Eamonn McConvey.

“We do not attend police meetings but I attend all my council meetings,” McConvey said. So it’s alright to have a chin-wag with the colonial police as long as it’s council business. How will they perform when England’s Queen addresses Stormont? An event that is on the cards according to the UUP.
