REPUBLICAN Sinn Féin called on the people of Dublin to oppose the visit of Britain’s Prince Charles to the city on February 14-15.A picket was held by the Dublin Comhairle Ceantair of Republican Sinn Féin on O’Connell Bridge in Dublin city at the evening rish-hour on February 14. Passers-by were leafletted and many motorists showed their support by beeping their car horns.
Republican Sinn Féin’s publicity officer, Ruairí Óg Ó Brádaigh, said that British royals were not welcome in Ireland while Britain maintained its illegal presence in the Six Counties.
“The promotion of British Royal visits by the Dublin administration is an attempt to normalise division and occupation.
“Prince Charles is also the Colonel-in-Chief of the British army’s notorious Parachute Regiment which shot dead 14 unarmed civilians in Derry 30 years ago. The fact that the British government gave honours to the military commander on Bloody Sunday shows how insignificantly they view the loss of innocent Irish lives,” he said.
